Have you agreed the ‘rules’ with your remote team yet?
Developing a Remote Team Working Agreement with all team members is a great way to start, and can give some clarity and reassurance to team members who may welcome some guidance right now.
This can be done by brainstorming, as a team, what the expectations and daily practicalities of remote working in your team are. Collectively you can then come up with an agreement. This doesn’t have to be binding, but it can be useful if written down, agreed and displayed in a shared space.
Here are some ideas for your Remote Team Working Agreement:
• What are the expected core working hours that team members need to be online or available for calls?
• What days can the team meet for a virtual coffee break or lunch?
• What is the expected behaviour for these meetings? (e.g. when to mute, how to excuse yourself).
• Who should be at what meetings, when and for how long?
• What is the preferred video conferencing platform?
• Is there a project tracking tool that everyone can access?
• How are holidays or sick days communicated?
*Top tip: This should be viewed as a living document, which can be reviewed on a regular basis.
