How to encourage connection when working remotely
As we’re all discovering, it’s important to feel connected when working as part of a remote team. Although the main purpose of your team meeting is work, they are also an excellent opportunity to enhance team morale and make each team member feel more valued, heard and acknowledged.
A very simple approach is to ask each team member to answer these three questions at the end of your team meeting:
•Tell us about one thing that has been going well lately?
•Tell us about one thing that you feel can be improved?
•Share one thing that’s been going on with you personally?
It’s important that the team lead participates as well, so there is a sense of equality and everyone being in it together. Remind team members to be empathic to each other but not to offer advice or a shared experience.
This exercise allows employees to discuss and improve work, while feeling more connected to their colleagues.
Top tip: Give people warning in advance of the questions you are thinking of and suggest a time limit, so it doesn’t go totally off course.
